State of the Blog Address 2013

I've just recently decided that I'm going to start this blog up again. I've got the pack fever again and blogging about this hobby makes me happy. Watch for fresh content coming real soon!

State of the Blog Address

Fellow bloggers and esteemed search engine users, lend me your ear. 2 score and a few days ago, I began a new era of employment which has brought much prosperity to our family and friends. Debts have been paid, tasks have been completed and children have been fed. The sweet taste of success left a burning desire in our home for even more prosperity and happiness. This, along with the oncome of a great opportunity for our family, led me into the services of a second employer. Now a great lesson has been learned that with prosperity comes great hardship which cannot be used towards the cause of blogging. And with that comes the inevitable realization that a choice between the two employers must be made. But until certain things come to pass that are beyond my control, we must excercise patience during this period of uncertainty. Until then, the blog may suffer. Trading between fellow collectors may suffer. COLLECTING may suffer most of all! I urge you to not lose hope, as all things will come to pass. All trades set in motion are still in motion and will continue to move until the task at hand is completed. The system is still working. Have faith and God bless.

eBay Selling Success

I recently purchased a Panini Adrenalyn XL NBA starter kit, 1 for me and 1 for my wife. I have a thing for sports related collectible card games, and she likes to play me. We played a ton of games of MLB Showdown years ago when we first started dating. I think she just likes to spend time with me. Anyways, the kits come with 4 packs, a playing mat and an album to put the cards in. Its funny how 23 years after I bought my last album from panini, a baseball sticker album, they've come around and now sold me another. So, I opened my 4 packs and I pulled the rarest version of the Lebron James card. I was curious and tried looking it up on eBay. They had none for sale and none previously sold. And the less rare varieties were selling very well. So I threw it on eBay for $.99 knowing it would get tons of bids, hoping to net 20 bucks. Check out how much it sold for:

I was stunned! And I feel very lucky to have pulled it out of a 99 cent pack! Woohoo!

By the way, the game is pretty fun, if you have someone to enjoy it with of course.

Blogger Issues?

Is anyone else having problems connecting to anything blogger.com related? I haven't been able to update my blog or even view any blogger blogs for something like 2 days. I'm pretty sure it's my ISP but I just want to know if anyone else is having this same problem.

My First Crazy eBayer Post

I tend to shy away from most of the crazy eBayer blog posts. Simply because I find them irritating and the first thing that comes to mind is, "who cares!". If they're asking too much or whatnot, then they'll be out the listing fee. If they make the sale then props to them! Also, if there's an insane asking price plus an "or best offer", than obviously they just want to hear some offers and are probably not expecting to sell the card for 10 grand. I present to you this heinousness:

Now don't get me wrong, this is not a rip on this seller in any way. In fact, this seller is one of my favorites. I've gotten some really great stuff from their store. But, really.. how does this happen?! There are people out there that bust that much 2006 Score and then spend $500+ to slab them?

MLB.com's 2010 Fantasy Baseball Preview

I was taken by surprise today when checking out MLB.com, like I do every day, to see a new fantasy baseball preview featuring today's players in none other than the classic 1987 Topps card design. Interestingly though, Topps logo isn't anywhere to be seen. Yeah MLB is MLB but.. does anyone happen to be a lawyer? Not important. Anyways, the webpage appears to be a great resource with stats, projected stats, rankings and more! Check it out.

Random Packs of Kindness via Tribecards

One of the first things I learned about the online trading card community, when I getting into it almost 2 years ago, was the immense generousity between other bloggers and collectors. It amazes me that someone would spend 9 bucks on postage to mail a complete stranger a bunch of free stuff and expect nothing in return. David over at "Indians, Baseball Cards, and Random Wax" (AKA Tribecards?) was, and I think still is, giving away some "Random Packs of Kindness" to anyone who wanted them. Seeing the many, many happy people with their thankful responses, I asked for a couple of packs myself. I was only expecting a small package with 2 or 3 packs, but what arrived was a large bubble mailer filled with 5 good sized packs of cards, several oversized cards and even one of those old Topps folders I had when I was in the 4th grade! Each pack had roughly 50 cards per pack, mostly baseball with a tad randomness too. Each pack seemed to have 1 "hit" too, which was was either a serial numbered, auto or memorabilia card! Some of the randomness included 1an old 1991 WCW card feauturing a very hairy Dutch Manetell. I also found a 1985 Goonies movie sticker card, a T2 movie card, a Simpsons CCG card and a ZatchBell CCGcard.Here's a couple of scans of my favorites. I'm trying to complete the American Heritage set, but unfortunatly I already have that one.

The Tony Armas (Jr.) card is an autograph. The '87 Topps Steve Fireovid card is cool because I recently decided I wanted to collect cards featuring Mariners wearing the old trident M logo uniforms worn from 1977 to 1986. I decided this after drooling over the vintage style hats and t-shirts at Safeco Field this summer. Very cool! What's wierd is I used to think they were ugly as heck! I hope the M's uniforms from 1987 to 1992 don't start looking nice because those were really ugly!

The Pujols was a nice surprise because it was on my needs list.. *scratch*!

Anyways, thanks very much Mr. Tribecards! I will try and go through my stack of Indians cards and match them up to your needs list to see if I can mail you a brick or two myself.

As for fellow collector's generousity, my next post will probably be on my other blog, 1969 Topps, showcasing some more free cards!

I'm back.. I think.

OK, so I might try this pack bustin' blog again, but I don't think I'll try keeping up with 1 pack a day and all that.. it was too much and made me want to stop. I'll just do it whenever I feel like it.

The pics of the cards I post will be much better now that I finally ventured out into the world and picked up a Visioneer OneTouch 9420 high-res flatbed scanner so I can start using actual scans of my cards rather than stock photos off the internet. Oh and I can scan squished fruit too..
